Spellbound

France, 1852. Lord Marius Richelieu and his privileged son, Pascal, are spending some time at their country home. Frustrated by the lack of suitable companions, the drunken and obnoxious Pascal takes to the bed of his maidservant, Giselle Bellrose.

When Lord Marius commissions the charismatic Edouard Laurent to paint his portrait, he invites the artist to stay at the chateau while he completes the work. Edouard is immediately smitten with the beautiful Giselle. Threatened by Edouard, Pascal keeps a close eye on his servant. He will not allow her to fraternise with the likes of Laurent.

However, when Giselle begins a passionate affair with Edouard, she learns that there is more to the artist than meets the eye. He is a sorcerer who practices sex magic. And he is un immortel.

Edouard begs Giselle to leave Marius’s house and to live an immortal life with him. Now, Giselle is forced to make a choice – maintain her stable life with Marius and Pascal or start a new life with the bewitching Edouard. What will she do?

Spellbound is an intoxicating blend of historical intrigue, dark romance, and supernatural mystery. Set in the lavish yet treacherous world of 19th-century France, the novel follows Giselle, a maid who becomes entangled in a dangerous web of forbidden passion and ancient magic. When the enigmatic artist Edouard enters her life, secrets unravel, revealing that he is no ordinary man—and that love, in this world, comes with a price.

Raven Rede masterfully combines rich historical detail with a brooding, gothic atmosphere. The romance is intense, the tension palpable, and the supernatural elements are woven seamlessly into the narrative. Giselle is a compelling heroine, torn between desire and duty, while Edouard’s dark charm makes him an unforgettable leading man. Their chemistry crackles with every encounter, and the revelations about Edouard’s past make this a truly spellbinding read.

For fans of Deborah Harkness and Anne Rice, Spellbound is a lush, immersive tale of love, power, and the sacrifices we make for both. Highly recommended!
